Infect the signal.
From expansive trance leads to cold digital textures, industrial bass, and slowly evolving atmospheres. CONTAGION is a Virus-inspired sound-design instrument with a taste for mutation.

Shape the sound
Three oscillator slots, voice controls, unison, and separate analog and digital character controls provide the starting point. The design explores the space between focused, clean tones and deliberately rough textures.
Keep it moving
Dual filters, four envelopes, four LFOs, a modulation matrix, a sequencer, and four-corner morphing give a patch more than one direction to travel.
Randomize. Mutate. Go feral.
Create a new starting point with Randomize. Push an existing sound with Mutate. Turn up the chaos—or hit GO FERAL to explore the extreme end of the design.
Profiles, seeds, section locks, snapshots, and undo/redo make discovery part of the workflow. Keep the elements you like, change the rest, and save the accidents worth repeating.
Two filters. More ways to bite.
The filter page brings together two filter sections, input drive, balance, linking, and routing controls. A signal-flow view keeps the architecture visible while envelope and response displays show how the sound is being shaped.

Modulation that goes beyond a wobble.
Four envelopes and four LFOs feed a 16-slot matrix. Route movement from performance controls, macros, random-per-note sources, and sequencer lanes. The interface also offers drag-to-assign modulation for building connections directly from the controls.

Patterns with a mind of their own.
A 32-step sequencer and arpeggiator put movement at the center of a patch. Notes, velocity, gates, probability, ratchets, and four modulation lanes provide the pattern-building surface. Pattern dice let you target individual elements, keep the rhythm, or stay in scale.

Four corners. A field of possibilities.
Capture different sounds at the corners of the XY pad and explore the space between them. Each corner has capture, randomize, clear, and lock controls. Continuous parameters can move between snapshots; structural choices use defined switching behavior rather than pretending every setting changes continuously.

Polish it. Smear it. Break it.
The effects interface includes chorus/ensemble, phaser, flanger, distortion, bit-depth and sample-rate reduction, a frequency shifter, stereo delay, reverb, and EQ. Reorder controls, section dice, and locks put experimentation beside each effect.

Eight handles on the whole machine.
Brightness · Movement · Aggression · Space · Width · Digital Damage · Instability · Intensity. Edit macro destinations, ranges, curves, and polarity to build a performance layout around your patch.

Technical architecture and sound-design controls
Oscillator and voice architecture
- Three primary oscillator slots per voice, with sub and noise in the design. Planned synthesis families: Classic waveforms, interpolated Wavetable, detuned Hypersaw-style clusters, and a later true granular engine using user audio.
- Mode-dependent shape / position controls, tuning, phase / randomization, pan, sync, ring modulation, and an explicitly documented FM or phase-modulation path. Final engine availability requires confirmation.
- Poly / mono / legato, unison, detune, stereo spread, glide, analog and digital character controls. Optional MPE is a later development target.
Filters and modulation
- Dual filters with serial / parallel / split routing, linked or independent cutoff, balance, key tracking, envelope amount, and drive placement. Design modes include low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch, comb, and ladder-inspired options.
- Four envelopes and four LFOs; the matrix has 16 slots with performance, macro, random-per-note, and sequencer-lane sources.
- Envelope curves, extra looping envelopes, LFO phase / fade / sync / retrigger, and clear per-voice versus global modulation are part of the development design.
Sequencing and morphing
- 32-step design: note offset, velocity, gate, probability, ratchets, ties, and four modulation lanes. Arp direction, octaves, gate, swing, hold, and tempo division.
- Four-corner XY snapshots with capture, lock, randomization, swap, and depth. Continuous controls morph; structural choices require defined switching rather than averaging enum values.
FX, macros, and discovery
- Chorus / ensemble, phaser, flanger, distortion, bit / rate crushing, frequency shifting, stereo ping-pong delay, reverb, and EQ are in the rack.
- Brightness, Movement, Aggression, Space, Width, Digital Damage, Instability, and Intensity macros, with editable destinations and response controls.
- Randomize, Mutate, GO FERAL, profiles, chaos amount, reproducible seed, locks, snapshots, and undo / redo. The 256-preset target and external-input FX mode remain unverified development targets.
